Sheela-Na-Gig of the Flowers & Dark Moon

Sheela-Na-Gig of the Flowers & Dark Moon

This Sheela was born at Beltane, after my visit to the first ever Sheela-Na-Gig festival in Goddess House, Glastonbury. The long history of Sheela's around the British Isles is fascinating, similar sculptures exist around the world stretching back to antiquity. I listened to a talk about her and her history by the wonderful Kate Temple. I felt so inspired afterwards, the painting pretty much painted itself. She makes a beautiful altar feature.

Sheela-Na-Gig is painted on stretched canvas with acrylics and mixed media. The edges are painted so there is no need to frame her unless you desire.
